Ukraine Conflict: Russian Airstrikes Kill Dozens in Zaporizhzhia

In the early hours of July 29, Russian forces unleashed a devastating series of airstrikes on Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhzhia region. Four precision-guided bombs struck the Bilenkivska correctional facility in Bilenke, leaving at least 17 inmates dead and injuring over 40 others, including prison staff. The facility’s cafeteria, administrative blocks, and quarantine unit were reduced to rubble. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s President, decried the attack as deliberate and intentional, stating: “These were conscious, deliberate strikes — not accidental.” Authorities confirmed the strikes hit 73 cities, towns, and villages overnight, part of a broader wave of violence impacting civilian areas nationwide.
